Hermin1, I would like to know how the following names would be translated into the Dakota,Lakota,Nakota language. Fierce(Heroic) Bear and Blue Beard. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Folks; do the words Wanske and nanske mean the same thing? if not what is the fdifference? thanks for your help.
Hermin1- wanske means fourth child, if a daughter I cannot find nanske, but wonder if it is a misspelling for wanske, or if it is supposed to be nunske/ nonske which means to express ignorance. (My specialty!)

Before my gr/gr/grandmother's name she wrote Ah Ne Rosa Henry. As far as I know she was called Jane Young Henry and Mary Jane Henry. My ancesters were told never to speak of their heritage for fear they would taken off to boarding schools but a family bible shows "Jane's" name with the Ah Ne Rosa Jane Henry.
I need help in translating a couple of names. I just found some new (to me) documents on Ancestry.com earlier today. One of the documents is the U. S. Indian Census taken 13 Nov 1891.
The particular part I was glad to find shows the widow Susan Rock (Rocque) as head of household; her three children, Josephine, Mary and Felix; her mother-in-law (my GGGM); and her mother. I figured out Winona & Hapan for Josephine and Mary but the rest are beyond my meager knowledge. I would be very grateful for any help.
Makawastewin - Susan Rock, female, widow, age 36
Lasunketo - Felix Rock, male, son, age 4 (It could also be Tasunketo)
Latekinafinwin - Madaline, female, mother in law, age 85 (It could also be Tatekinafinwin)
Upanna - Susan, female, mother of Susan, age 70
It's hard to tell if the handwriting is a "L" or "T" on two of the names.
[Edit: I could scan a image of the handwritten names if that would help with the translation. Thanks again.]
