I just found this delightful article about my ancestor, Levi Francis Trudell and David Wells. Here is the article, and the full page it is from. On the full page it is in the far left column. This is from the Omaha World Herald, 19 November 1903, page 2. Here is the transcription of the article: Levi Trudell and David Wells two Santee Indians who were arrested in a drunken brawl at the Klondike hotel, had a friendly little hearing before Commissioner Anderson Wednesday morning. He listened sympathetically the halting stories of the red men - how sorry they were, how it was their first offense, how they had been drugged by wicked companions into doing wrong, how they would never do it again etc., etc. He lectured them solemnly on the evil effects of bad whiskey, and released them on good behavior on their own recognizances threatening to send them to jail on bread and water if they did not remain good Indians. My grandmother vaguely remembers her grandpa Levi, she told me this last Christmas that he was a drunk.
