Hi kids, I am hoping someone finds this request on page 7 here. I am groveling before you begging everyone to look through their piles of probates for me! I am absolutely desperate to have the probate for Moses Tiyo Greeley. I am told Katie LaCroix is listed as a former wife of his, and hope to see it for myself some day. Moses died in 1896 and his probate was dated 1918. (Sisseton) If anyone knows any Greeley or Wanna folks who you think might have this, I would be ETERNALLY grateful for a copy. Thank you!!! Vicky

Hi Tamara, I so appreciate your checking on this. Moses' kids were Daniel Starlight (Greeley) and Nora Greeley who married a Wanna. This is all I know of Nora- "To Moses Greeley and Nancy Isbu, there was born three children, Nora Greeley (now Wanna), daughter, Hapan, son and Emily Greeley who died at age 5 on 4/19/99. Hapan died about the year 1895, but Nora is living and takes an equal share with her half-brother, Daniel Greeley. " I don't know the first name of the Wanna man, Nora's husband. Wish I had more for you to go on! Thanks so much, Vicky

Yes, Horace is a brother of Moses. Son of Itewayaka James- One Arm Jim, scout at Fort Sisseton. Itewayaka had 3 wives and Horace, Susan Bird and Moses are all from wife #1, Sana. Wife #2 was Tasin and she had the following children- Adam G., Hinman G. and more unknown. Wife #3- Tabetha had the following children- Tiaokasin (aka Joseph Tiackasimna) and Lilly James. Reference- James Itewayaka probate which I have a transcription of, but have not seen with my own eyes yet. Another probate I am dying to get my hands on.

Wish I had more for you to go on! Thanks so much, Vicky Here is what I know. my ancestor Pete Lablanc was born in 1898. (record can be found in the SD vital records database for over 100 years catagory) to Pete LaBlanc Sr born 1862 in Mn died 12/12/08 and Nancy Isbu or Obogawin-Greeley-LaBlanc-Earth (Maka) Dumarce (Wow, all the women in my family are married lots and lots of times!) who died 3/13/69. Nancy Isbu Obogawin shows on the 1900 Federal Censu in RedIron Township married to Pete LaBlanc. Their child, Pete Lalanc Jr is my g/grandpa. His obituary says this: Peter LaBlanc was born to Peter and nancy LaBalnc at Sisseton on Oct 3, 1896. .. He is survived by two daughters -my grandmas.. and 2 step daughters .... 1 sister Cora LaCroix 1 half sister Nora Wanna or Sisseton 1 half brother Joseph LaBlanc --------------------------------- Another thing I should mention, is that my grandma's mother is Grace Wanna (her father is Pete LaBlanc) Grace Wanna is the daughter of Xavier Wanna and Mary Rose Demarrias Are you confused yet? What I am wondering is.. if Pete LaBlanc's sister Nora (daughter of Nancy Isbu Greeley LaBlanc) also married into the same family. The family of Xavier and Mary Rose Wanna. I should also mention that Nancy Isbu is referred to as Nancy Hoop on other documents. Tamara I am still looking....

For all of us searching for probates, I heard from Virginia in Pierre (S D Historical Society) today and she writes the following- "We do not have the actual probate or heirship files. I know that the records are hard to come by thru the local offices. What we do have are some case files that include probate and heirship records. These files occured when the Indian Agent could not find a direct heir so the land etc was divided up among several related family members. Thus the records for these cases. Now the problem is that the records are not indexed. They are filmed by agency then approximate time period. For example, if a non-son or daughter but other relation, inherited land at Crow Creek Agency during they year 1910, then there may be a case file for that land. Pine Ridge Case files may have 7 to 10 microfilms for the time period of 1900 to 1920. It takes time to go thru these. Wonderful information if your family is found. Other records for sisseton at the SD Archives; Agency Census 1885-1939(poor) Episcopal Church registers Iapi Oaye Newsletter 1871-1940 with vital records index" So as far as them having the actual probates, no they don't. Gee, do we need any more bad news this week?

In a book I have been reading it says Thomas Quinn married a Jennie Cloudman. There is a little short story about there romance and the marriage ceremony. They were married by Rev. CR Crawford , he was the pastor of the Goodwill Church and I think it was either at Sisseton or Brown Earth. It says Thomas'a step father was Itewakanhdiota and mother was Praire Chicken or Siyowin. If there is anything else u may have question about just message me as I don't post often don't know if I am doing it right. Sisco

Roddickfan, Back in Oct 2006 you posted that you had either heirship papers or probates on Thomas Robinson and Sarah Robinson. How could I get a copy of these from you. I went to the BIA for Sarah's last month and I am still waiting to hear something from them. If you could email them to me or mail them, please let me know and I will send you my contact information. Thanks.
