sunshine: at this stage of the game , it looks like you may a day late and a dollar short. But , you can try the South Dakota Historical Society in Pierre SD. they have a lot of Probates from the NARA(Bia Records) on microfilm. It will cost you a research fee plus photocopying and handling plus postage. Can anyone help me find a probate on Martha Stone, also known as Mary Hapstin. Also, David Weston. Many thanks!

i don't know why this hermin1 has to be so negative to sunshine. to guest: I apologize if that is what it appeared tobe to you. But you just popped up on our web site so you don't know what suncshine's situation is. As of several weeks ago, the BIA offices at the reservtions are no longer even letting people see probtes on their ancestors, due to this lawsuit. there are only two places that I knowo f where you can find theprobates you need, Pierre, SD, at the Historical Society Archives, and the NARA Archives. I have been in contact with sunshine and am helping her with her search. I am sure if she felt I was being negative she would have told me so.

That is interesting Lois.... what dates do you have on both women... birthdate and deathdate. I could run a census check on them. have you seen indian names on them? 1900 federal census is one. The other 1900 federal census we talked about... I cant remember what county that is... I just know its 1900 and for Mr Quinn right?

I think hermin1 is speaking to the deadlines given to most people. I do know that there are many people who are still searching, just because they want to know and to firm up what they have.
Sunshine.... (Sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey.... oh, sorry... its a song my kids sing with grandma in the car... LOL)
Have you looked at the Stone probates that Jimmy posted online? Can you give us a rundown of the family line with some dates on the people you are focused on? Dont worry about making a mistake or writing what you think you know so far... that is how we all learn and sort it out. ... Why do I get the Stone and Wakute families mixed up? It has something to do with the Martha's in them.... or the fact that I am so tired from the big adventure weekend in Pierre and Sisseton. In the infinite balance of the world, I have returned home without much of a voice.... might be someone is trying to tell me something! lol

well to me hermin1 seems kind of rude to some people who are new to the board. that's just how she comes across to me.

well to me hermin1 seems kind of rude to some people who are new to the board. that's just how she comes across to me. I don't think she intends to be rude. It is just frustrating when people ask for information, without exhausting the search possibilities that exist themselves. People could help themselves more if they would do the work of searching the resources on this site and the internet. Also, it is very important when requesting information to include not only names, but dates, places, and any other information that would be useful for identifying a person. It is very hard to find information about a person based on just a name.

well to me hermin1 seems kind of rude to some people who are new to the board. that's just how she comes across to me. I think that because of all of the kindness and hard work she has contributed to the board, it is hard for me to see if she comes off as impatient. I realize that others dont know her as well as we do and you are entitled to your opinion I also think that you stated it in a very honest, fair and even respectful manner. I hope that things can be smoothed out so that you dont feel that way and that you can eventually become a part of the board, researching and sharing with alot of great people. Tamara

:)hi! Tatiyopawastewin or Sophia Shaker (Her Good Door) age 62 according to Cekpawin's probate, was a sister to my grt. grandfather, Sutahedan or Sutahena or Goodvoice d.o.d. 1889 age 34 or 38 according to his probate. His english name was Jacob Stronghold according to my grandmother Bessie Goodvoice's death certificate. Whom are children of Sihahanska or Longfoot. My grandmother, Bessie Goodvoice died Nov. 23, 1964 at the age of 76 so my guess she was born in 1888. And Felix White Shell or Austin Clear was a son of Tukiska or White Shell whom is a brother to Tatiyopawastewin and Sutahena. Felix White Shell died at the age of 19 on Jan. 23, 1911 (Crow Creek allottee #259). I don't have any info. on Anna Goodvoice. I just wanted to see if she was related. Itina d.o.d. about 1891 was married to Wicanrpiwastewin or Good Star Woman (her first husband) and whom also is a daughter of Sihahanska or Long Foot. I hope this all makes sense. My mother's name was Lucy A. Quinn and my grandfather was Solomon N. Quinn and my grandmother was Bessie Sutahena or Goodvoice aka Shepherd & Sing. All my research is on the Maternal side of the family. Quinn and Sihahanska or Longfoot. I wouldn't of had all of this info. if it wasn't for you! You've been a big help and I really appreciate it. That is interesting Lois.... what dates do you have on both women... birthdate and deathdate. I could run a census check on them. have you seen indian names on them? 1900 federal census is one. Well, as usual, you are so nice, but you give me way to much credit. My biggest asset is being able to find someone who knows the information that others are looking for. You have worked very hard to trace your family and collect information, and it does have its rewards doesnt it? When you look at this family overall, do you see people like Hannah Shepard? It seems like the names you are showing are from the enemy swim area, is that right? I think I have some papers that show the siblings of hannah shepard. I know that Shakers are from enemy swim area. Re: probates for Sarah Robinson and Thomas Robinson. My Gr-grandmother was Sarah Robinson Demers Mackey of Niobrara and her father was Thomas Robinson of Lake Benton, MN. These probates you have, might they be from these two people? You can contact me personally at poncalady@peoplepc.com or reply on this board. I would be very interested in these as I have been waiting to hear from the BIA on them for some time.
