If you could provide an English translation for anpahdewin, it would help me search.

I could so easily be wrong as it happened once, but I think andpahdewin or andpahdiwin is a form of morning or dawn. My grandmother is fluent and we often talk of the differences in lakota and dakota and I mentioned a girl whose name is spelled andpadee and she said "maybe they mean anpahdi" like we (dakota) often say anpao like coming of the morning. The girls name is Dawn so I am guessing she is correct in some way.

Hey Hermin I also want to add that as far as I can tell it looks like the name Anpahdiwin took the english name of "St Clair" The first time I note this is when, Nancy Anpahdiwin and Thomas Miller, named their daughter "Elizabeth/Isabella St. Clair" later became wife or "Stephen Wabasha/Blacksmith"

Just a little clearing up: Our connection between Emma and Nancy right now, is mainly a strong logical deduction at this point and this is how we came to that deduction. 1. Emma Anpahdiwin, born 1806, she would be 25 when Nacy Anpahdiwin was born and 26 when Julia Anpahdiwin/Smith was born, they all were born in Minn. 2. Nancy Anpahdiwin, born 1831, baptized in Redwood Falls Minn, in 1863 3. Julia Anpahdiwin, born 1832, in Minn I am trying to find out if Nancy's baptism is in the Whipple records, I am trying to find the index for them. I see that Emma and Julia stayed in Minn. and are listed on both the 1886 and 89 census. So we are also searching for info on Emma Anpahdiwin's children, she may be listed as a St Clair, just a guess?? I do have a paper from the 1885 Santee Roll stating that Nancy Anpahdiwin is the Grandma of 'Charles St Clair Jr." the son of "Mary Mitchell/St Clair/Brown/Hoffman" so we think that "Charles St Clair Sr." was the son of Nancy Anpahdiwin" I hope this helps, we are having a tough time with getting our hands on the Minn records. wapate,
Charles St. Clair Sr.'s baptismal lists his parents as "Trombly" and "Winonna". The 1900 US Census for Charles Mix County, SD lists Charles' father being born in Canada and mother in Minnesota. Other than that we have been unable to find any info on his parents. We were told (although I don't know how reliable this is) that Nancy Anpahdiwin was Charles' aunt.
His baptismal lists him as being born 1865 in Fort Ridgely, MN, and baptised at Santee, 1868.

On the family tree I have it lists Mazaitewin and Wanmdikinyanhiyaye as the parents to Winona spouse just listed as St. Clair. Then it lists Charles St Clair and Mary Hoffman. Children Stephen, Jospeh,Anna Charles,Carrie,Norris,Stella,Clifford.
It looks like Mazaitewin and Anpahdiwin are sisters so that would make Anpahdiwin Charles Aunt.
Wanmdikinyanhiyaye's parents are are listed as Ptesanwin and Wanmdikinyanhiyaye son and father have the same name. Ptesanwin's parents are Itazipi and Hazawastewin.
I hope this makes sense.

thanks dawn and duke sorry for the long delay, have been very busy. the Charles chase is a wild one, it seems that both sides of my great grand parents loved the name "Charles" i have counted many, for example Nancy had Charles Blacksmith and a Charles St Clair for grandsons she also had a brother in law and a nephew Charles St Clair, and there were more from their children, They were Charles crazy, and it is very hard to put them all together, so i will work on them at a later date after we submit or paper work. Say: Dawn are you the "kind heart" that sent us some papers on Nancy and Charles St Clair? Thank you so much for your help. wapate
