The one that died in 1899! The one that "roamed" the streets of Flandreau. Her daughter's name was Eliza.
Thanks much!!

ammann:I am wondering if this is your Granny Weston: Her indian name was Raspberry(Tahkoneheha), and she died in1898. sheis buried in the Old Indian Cemetery near Flandreau. Hope this helps. I am so sorry but that is all I have on her. Eliza Weston is listed on the 1870 US Census for Dak. Terr., Elk Point.

ammann: she was known as Granny Weston, and I already gave you her Indian name with Translation. The information on the three Granny Westos was in a document once available from the Flandreau Indian Reservation Website, before they revamped it several years ago. check with the Flandreau Museum. I wouldn't try calling them though, as no one answers the phone there. I have tried calling numerous times these past 3 months. You will need to write to them, and then they don't reply to inquiries.

ammann: I am sorry ,I don't know what to tell you. You won't lose nothing by writing to them. type Flandreau SD Genealogical Society into Google. Also try Moody County,SD GenWeb in google. the contact information is at that web site. They are working on a cemetery burials database, and most of itis completed for Moody county. check there. Oh I have an idea. Try the Moody County, South Dakota court house.type it into Google and get the contact numbers there. they may have a record on her or may be able to give you a home phone number for some on e int he historical society to call. Tell them nobody ansers the phone at the contact numbers for the Museum .

I won't fgive up either. I have her name on my list of people to look for. I did find 2 mary Westons in my Weston records: Philip Weston had a daughter mary born@1876/77 at Flandreau. Robert Weston was married to a Mary?(1880 US Census Dakota Terr., Moody County).

Philip Weston was the son of John and Mary (Hehotewin).
It is not the Mary that is a wife of Robert Weston either. John was David Weston's brother.
I am wondering if Granny was Hehotewin and not Tahkonehaha?

ammann: if granny weston was stil alivein 1885, then she may have been listed on the 1885 Flandreau Indian Census. I would suggest you write to JackieMHahn@ aol.com she has access to those records and check for you .

I just wish that I could be 100% sure and find some written record of Granny Weston that was painted in the portrait owned by Dr. Spafford was Hehotewin / Mary Weston. All the pieces fit together but I can't find that written record saying Granny and Mary were the same person!! And the historians in Moody County have confused the 3 Granny Westons for years and years and combined facts about all three of them.

I should have said Mary Weston (Hehotewin) is on the Flandreau Indian Census records through June 1899.
Mary's grandson was Henry Weston son of Philip Weston. Henry was on the Yankton Indian Census records as late as 1937. Would there be any family tree mentioning his grandmother on Yankton records. How are those records available?

Henry's name was Hoke, born 1872.

amman: all you can do is google the Yankton Indian Reservation, to find the contact nformation and ask them for help/information. do you knowif there are any of Eliza westons descendents still living? How about Philip Weston's descendents? they may have some information on her. I haven't given up on you.Is she mentioned in the Flandreau Centennial book?
