I just joined this site and I am excited to learn more about my family tree and maybe find some relation.
I have always been told that I was descendant of Chief War Eagle, but only until recently have been doin some research. I have some information and according to this information I am the gr.gr.gr.gr.gr.grandson of Chief War Eagle.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on his daughter Dawn her daugther Julia Bruguier, Julia's husband Cassius M. Cougar and thier daughter Lucy Ann Cougar.
According to my notes Lucy Ann Cougar married Alfred Bonnin and had a son Leo Bonnin, who was my great grandfather. So I am also looking to see if I might be realted to Raymond Bonnin and Gertrude Bonnin (the famous native american writer).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and please ask me any questions I may have some answers.

Hi, I'm a descendant of War Eagle. My name is Judith Jeanne Conger Martinez. Youngest daughter of Theodore William Conger & Julia May Wishecoby. They had 15 children. Many of us have a print (picture) of War Eagle, acquired by several different means. I personally don't have one. But one of my Brothers found one on Ebay. If you would like more information, please let me know. Thank you.

There was a book called Pioneering in the Northwest, Niobrara-Virginia City Wagon Road by Albert M. Holman, published by Deitch & Lamar CO in Sioux City, Iowa in 1924. The cover of the book has printed on it "Short Sketches of Charles Floyd, War Eagle, Theophile Bruguier and Others." You should check it out the War Eagle section because it lists all of War Eagle's children. I found a picture of War Eagle with one of his wives (he was married twice), born 1824 and died 6-5-1902 at the age of 78. There is a burial and memorial to him in the area above and over looking Sioux City which has been renovated over the years.

You have some good information and some bad... "I found a picture of War Eagle with one of his wives (he was married twice), born 1824 and died 6-5-1902 at the age of 78. " This photo is probably not the Chief War Eagle (of Sioux City fame) as he died in 1851. See Wikipedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_War_EagleAlthough a photograph of Yankton Chief Smutty Bear was taken in 1849, It is known as the earliest photograph of a native american. "an early photograph by S. Masury, one of the earliest photographic images of a native American Indian." JON

Hello DHansen,
My name is Lavanah and I am the great-great-great granddaughter of Julia Bruguier.
Julia Bruguier first married George W. Northrup:
NORTHRUP, George W. He was born in 1856 ; was a well known trapper and scout in the Northwest. He located on a claim near the Sheynne River, N. D., in 1858. He was a guide for the hunting party of Sir Francis Sykes in 1861, in the region between the Missouri and the Red rivers. He was killed by Indians in 1864 while serving under Gen. Sibley. BEING FIRST ANNUAL REPORT OF THE STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF NORTH DAKOTA FOR YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 1906.
He was killed in the INFAMOUS battle of Killdeer Mt. "n the charge Sergeant George W. Northrup, of company C, fell, after receiving eight or ten wounds, one of which pierced him through the heart Horatio Austin, of Company D, was also killed while skirmishing. My loss during the day was two killed and eight wounded. I also lost twenty-two horses, punishing the enemy by killing twenty-seven found dead on the field afterward, besides quite a number that were seen to have been carried off by them. Signed. A. B. BRACKETT, Major Commanding Battalion"
Julia at the time was pregnant with Georgianna Northrup, my great-great grandmother.
Julia remarried to Cassius Milan Conger, son of the Yankton Indian Agent, Patrick Conger, abt 1819 - 1903, and Sarah Ann Brasher-Conger, abt. 1828.
If you would like further detailed information about the Bruguiers, Bonnins and War Eagle families I would more than happy to assist you. You can email me at Lavanah.Judah@gmail.com.
In the meantime, THIS IS A GREAT SITE filled with huge amounts of family information, just take your time to browse all the sections and you will find a War Eagle tree by Justice for All and much more. We, Koda people are open and welcoming, so you should find more than enough "extended" family here willing to help you.
If you email me, I will send you a War Eagle family tree done by Fr. Madlon in the 1930s which is a great tool and I will tell you how you are related to Zitkala Sa, Gertrude Bonnin. She married into the War Eagle line.
Mitakuye pidamaya.
Lavanah

Any substance to the idea that Iron Shaker could be Iron Shaking Woman who had a possible, short relationship/marriage with Augustus Traversie. No children. I am still trying to sort through the mystery of his other wife(ives). Any help in this area would be awesome! Thanks
