From the book The First 50 Years, Dakota Presbytery to 1890-
"Rev. William O. Rogers (Owancamaza) was licensed in June 1871 and ordained October, 1871 by Dakota Presbytery. He was S.S. at Flandreau 1871-'75; joined the Episcopal church in 1877 and returned in 1883: S.S. and P. of Wood Lake church 1883-'90. Mr. W. O. Rogers was born at West St. Paul, Minn. in 1837, the son of Piyaduta and Anna Hapstin, remained a heathen until he was imprisoned with other Sioux in 1862. He was converted in prison and trained for four years under Dr. Williamson with many other prisoners."

Rev. Rogers served our church Bdecan at Spirit Lake for 20 years ending in 1890. He was from Flandreau. His brother who also was a minister is buried there. Owancamaza's photo appears in Ehannawoyakapi (Sisseton History Book) he stands within a group photo. Toksta, Louie

Louie: Was his brother, Rev. Joseph Rogers? I ask because, I have not found any relationship between them. Rev. Joseph Rogers had different parents than William O. Rogers. although the first ordained minister for Flandreau, died during the winter of 1869-1870. He and one of the parishoners froze to death during a snow storm. The Rev.'s name was Joseph W. Graham(wicahkamaza).
